Process
Development and Documentation
All businesses operate on a
complex system of individual but interrelated processes
and procedures.
Inefficiencies occur when
processes are inconsistently executed, abbreviated, or
circumvented. Inconsistent execution and abbreviation
are often the result of a process being misunderstood by
or unknown to those responsible for its execution.
Circumvention is a common response to a process that is
perceived to be inefficient, or ineffective. If people
don’t believe there is value in a process or in the
effort required to execute it, they will avoid it and
instead look for the path of least resistance. In most
organizations, “tribal knowledge” is the prevailing
method of operation.
DMS partners with its
client teams to identify and document existing
processes, and to subsequently analyze those processes
to eliminate gaps and redundancies. Those responsible
for the execution of the system are thereby empowered to
identify their needs, and to define and develop their
own tools. The product is a well defined and
streamlined process system wherein users are owners. As
owners, users sense a personal stake in the system’s
success. Tribal knowledge is replaced with clear
understanding and detailed documentation that is
supported by its user/creators, and readily referred to
for training of new personnel.
